Since 2022, the Schwar Capital Research portfolio has lived in desktop tracking software on my laptop.
It did the job, but it was static and only I could see it. You got a screenshot a few times a year, and whatever happened in between stayed with me.
I wanted the portfolio to be more transparent than that, so I’ve moved it to a live tracker.
Prices update with the market, and every trade goes in on the day it happens, at the price it went through at. Paid subscribers can now view it at any time, and the first trade on it is a big one…
How I Moved It Across
Bringing the full history over wasn’t practical. The real portfolio was built across several brokers, with deposits, withdrawals, and hundreds of trades along the way. Rebuilding all of that inside a new tool would have created more errors than it fixed.
So the live portfolio starts from a fixed point:
Start date: 1 July 2026, the first day of the second half.
Starting value: £100,000, notional.
Positions: exactly what the portfolio held on 1 July, at the same weights, bought at that day’s prices. The two Canadian holdings use the 30 June close, as Toronto was shut for Canada Day.
Trades since: none between 1 July and the move, so nothing needed replaying.
The £100,000 is a round starting number. Every position is scaled up by the same factor, so the weights and the percentage returns match the real portfolio.
The live portfolio is reported in pounds.
The Record So Far
Here’s what the portfolio returned in the old tracker, from the start of 2023 up to the handover:
That’s +78.4% cumulative, or about 18% a year over three and a half years.
The returns are time-weighted, so deposits and withdrawals don’t distort them, and they’re in US dollars, the currency the old tracker reported in.
How Performance Will Be Reported
2026 is split in two.
First half (1 January to 30 June): tracked in the old software, +6.2%.
Second half (1 July onwards): tracked live, +6.3% from 1 July to 19 October.
At the end of the year, I’ll combine the two halves into a single 2026 figure in the annual review. From 1 January 2027, the portfolio runs entirely on the live tracker from a clean start.
Where to View It
Paid subscribers can view the live portfolio at any time from the Perks page.
The First Trade
The first trade through the new tracker is a sell, and a significant one at that.
It halves the largest position in the portfolio, and it went through two days before a deadline that will decide what happens to the rest of it.
